Issues surrounding President’s Sarkozy’s marriage problems

8 Apr

The attempts of French President Nicolas Sarkozy to end the rumours regarding his marriage problems backfired following his advisers’ statements regarding an international plot, their accusation of an attractive former minister and ordering the security service to conduct further investigation.

Sarkozy’s wife, Carla Bruni, attempted to end claims that she and the president were extremely preoccupied with the conspiracy to spread gossips about their unfaithfulness.

“For my husband and myself, these rumours are of no significance. It is true that we were victims of rumours and it wasn’t pleasant but this has not the slightest importance for us”, said Bruni in a radio interview. They never thought of retaliating, and they also never asked the intelligence services to conduct investigation. “It is unimaginable that such a thing could exist”, she added.

Bruni directly opposed a presidential staff’s claim regarding the role played by an ex-minister on the issue. The staff also claimed that foreign powers were attempting to undermine Sarkozy.

The Élysée Palace’s counter-offensive refuelled the rumours which the French media widely ignored. Moreover, MI5’s equivalent, DCRI, confirmed on Wednesday that it has been ordered to investigate the source of the story. According to an internet report, Bruni and Sarkozy were having secret affairs with their colleagues.

Rachida Dati, the ex- justice minister and Sarkozy’s protégée, denied that she was the source of the gossip. “Rumours, calumny and gossip about private life are absolutely inadmissible and scandalous”, said Dati on a breakfast radio. “It is just as scandalous that I have been directly implicated”, she added.

Sarkozy’s advisers have accused Dati last week of being involved in the plot to destroy Sarkozy. Pierre Charon, Sarkozy’s friend and aide, said Élysée Palace could prove Dati’s participation in the rumours.

French first lady prefers husband not to run for re-election

Former supermodel Carla Bruni hopes that her husband, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, opt not to run in 2012 election for a second term, worried that pressure of the job might affect his health.

“As a spouse, I do not wish for it. Maybe I am afraid that his health will be affected. Maybe I want to live what time we have left together in a certain peace”, said Bruni in an interview with ‘Figaro’ magazine. “But whatever the situation and whatever my husband decides, I will quietly accept it”, she added.

Sarkozy, who assumed office in 2007, is anticipated to run in 2012 for a second term, yet his camp has not release confirmation to this. However, the president’s poll ratings are nearing record lows, and his political party experienced an embarrassing defeat at a regional ballot this week. Doubts also emerged on whether he will win the 2012 campaign if his ratings will not improve.

The couple tied the knot in 2008 after a much-talked about romance. However, this month, wild media speculations have popped up questioning the status of their marriage after a French Web site allegedly reported that both of them were having extra-marital affairs.

Bruni despised the rumours as she believed they don’t have credible source.

Once quoted saying “crazily bored by monogamy”, the first lady said that she really treasures her marriage to the president.

“He is someone who protects me from myself and the world”, she said. “The intimate part of our life is hard to describe without immodesty. It is the first time that I give as much as I get”, she added.

As a successful singer/songwriter, Bruni is currently working on a new project. It was also confirmed that she will star in a Woody Allen film.

Rumours of Affairs Hit France’s First Couple

French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his former model wife Carla Bruni have both been accused of conducting extra marital affairs by online sources.

The allegations, which first surfaced on the social networking site Twitter, have been perpetuated by a number of online gossip blogs, causing a national scandal and press frenzy in France.

The first allegation to emerge concerned the French first lady, who was accused of  being engaged in a tryst with a musician, who online sources claimed she had set up a love nest within the French capital.

The allegations were shocking enough in themselves, but as the French public attempted to make sense of the situation, further rumours emerged – this time that the president himself was engaging in an extra marital affair.

According to numerous online sources, president Sarkozy was involved in a relationship with a female French minister.

And while some gossip pundits have leant credibility to the rumours citing their emergence from multiple sources, others have claimed that they may have been created by those with ulterior motives.

The supposed scandal comes as the French president battles against his lowest ever approval rating in the country.

Sarkozy and Bruni have been married since 2008, when they wed after a three month romance following a meeting at a dinner party, and, while many have commented on the unlikely match, their marriage has been a seemingly happy one until this point.
