French First Lady embarrassed by sex-chat movie

26 May

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was embarrassed yesterday over an online film that features some vulgar comments she said about love and sex during her years as a young model.

Running for 27 minutes, the film has been uploaded to the popular video-sharing internet site YouTube. It contains interview excerpts of the young First Lady that pits her outgoing past with her refined present – as the First Lady of France.

In one segment, the Italian-born First Lady grabs a book entitled, “Hot International Love and Sex Guides,” from her handbag. The guide translates erotic key phrases into a total of seven languages.

“We need these kind of books because we’re travelling all around the world, we’re meeting new people and we want to know what to tell them in case we get into bed with them”, she said to interviewers on Channel 4’s Eurotrash show.

The then-28 Ms. Bruni in 1996 went on to cite four different translations of the statement “You get me very hot”. She ended with the Italian translation “Mi eccite tanto”. She also cited other explicit phrases, soliciting an “oh no!” from one of the interviewers. Producer Thomas Cazals, who gathered the portrait entitled “In the Tube with Carla Bruni,” mentioned he did it “starting with the naive idea of better getting to know this character”.

Swift action was taken by The Elysee Palace regarding the film, which was removed last night from the blog of Mr. Cazal.

Even though the film pays tributes from fashion personalities who have high regard for the beauty, intelligence, and wit of Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy, it won’t receive a warm welcome. The former model has been making efforts to keep her brazen past in the past after tying the knot with Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008. The couple were seen yesterday at a farming event in Paris

French First lady spearheads international campaign against HIV

20 May

On Wednesday, French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy headed a global campaign to prevent children from being born with HIV by the year 2015.

The Global Fund, which utilises government donations to combat TB, HIV, and malaria, encourages people to allow world leaders to know through a petition online that they are backing the pledging of public money for the cause.

With enough financial support, the fund believes it can eliminate cases of newborns infected with HIV.

“Life is beautiful, don’t allow AIDS to destroy it before it has even started”, stated President Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife in a campaign ad.

“It’s a battle of hope… with your help we can give every mother and every child in the world the right to hope”, Bruni-Sarkozy further added. The first lady of France also serves as an ambassador of the Fund.

In 2009, more than 430,000 babies got the HIV infection from their mothers.

If not treated, an HIV-infected child only has an average lifespan of around two years.

Around 45% of females get treatment but still, “we must do better”, said Michel Kazatchkine, the director of Global Fund.

Unveiled in Paris, the campaign is featuring an animated series which can be seen at www.youtube.com/bornhivfree.

Sir Paul McCartney will also be having a fundraising concert in New York by the end of June. Gathering of online signatures will be done until 5 October at www.bornhivfree.org.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy vetoed rock concert in Louvre

29 Apr

French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has stopped the plans for a two-day free rock concerts in the courtyard of Louvre, fearing that it would take the limelight off a series of concerts to raise fund for Aids sufferers.

The Ministry of Culture initially approved the open-air concerts to be held at the Paris art gallery but later banned the event after being viewed as “unsuitable” and potentially unsafe.

According to reports published in French newspaper Le Canard Enchainé, the decision was supposedly made after Bruni objected to the 18-19 June concerts as the date fell within six days of the Aids event. Bruni is an official UN Aids ambassador.

The rock festival in Louvre, which was organised by a youth culture magazine in France, had been enthusiastically embraced by the world’s biggest museum.

Rock bands set to play in the Cour Napoléon, the huge space between the two wings of the art gallery would “rejuvenate” the image of the museum. Performers would also “attract a different kind of public”, the management said.

Senior officials who are responsible for public order in the French capital also gave their approval.

Yet earlier this week, Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand called off the concert. Ministry officials argued that holding a rock festival in a “historic monument” raised safety problems and possible damage, saying that it was “not a good idea”.

French first lady to take part in Woody Allen movie

22 Apr

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will play a role in a new movie of Woody Allen shot in Paris, France, despite concerns of the director that her job as first lady could bring some problems to the film.

However, Bruni-Sarkozy isn’t expected to take the lead female role, as it will be played by Oscar winner Marion Cotillard.

The movie’s title, date of release, and the precise role of the first lady are to be announced this week.

The wife of President Sarkozy may only make a short appearance, leaving the whole acting to Cotillard, who was awarded an Oscar for her role as French singer Edith Piaf in the film ‘La Vie en Rose’.

Allen told the first lady last year he would choose her in one of his movies but didn’t have a story yet at that time. She then indicated playing a part in his upcoming film.

However, the director last month admitted: “Carla Bruni is not a woman who earns her living as an actress. She is a first lady”.

“She could be taken away at any moment by other duties, like a political crisis or an important event. I have to take account of the risks that there could be, and hiring her is far from certain”, he added.

Allen then confirmed Cotillard will start shooting this July, together with American actor Owen Wilson and Canadian actress Rachel McAdams.

Bruni-Sarkozy has had only one movie role, taking part in the fashion satire ‘Pret-a-Porter’ of Robert Altman.

Film about French first lady eyes worldwide screening

16 Apr

A short documentary film featuring French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, which is in the final phase of production, is due to release in 12 nations, the distributor announced Wednesday.

‘The Birth of a First Lady’, shot for more than 18 months, is a close-up look at the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy as she learns the ropes and protocols at the Élysée Palace and abroad.

The 90-minute documentary, reduced to 52-minute for international screening, was among the most sought after films up for grab at the MIPDOC event held in Cannes, France.

Distributors in Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany have already acquired the rights of the documentary, claimed Isabelle Graziadey from Terranoa Company, the overall in charge of the distribution.

Deals with Spain and Italy are under negotiation while distributors from the US, Australia, Greece, Britain and Portugal have expressed their interest.

“This is really unusual,” said Graziadey.

Soon to hit France’s screens, the documentary shows “how becoming a first lady can change a woman’s life”, she added.

The 42-year-old former supermodel-turned-singer was shown talking with other first ladies as well as chatting with documentary producers regarding her new life.

Born in Italy, she married Sarkozy in 2008 after a whirlwind romance and has always accompanied him during state visits. She also did philanthropic works dealing with HIV AIDS in Africa.

Soon after her marriage, Bruni-Sarkozy released her third studio album and continued her singing career. In 2009, she appeared in a New York concert to celebrate the 91st birthday of Nelson Mandela.

Sarkozy infidelity rumours may be motivated by financial plot

6 Apr

Rumours over the marriage of French President Nicolas Sarkozy may have been prompted by a “financial” scheme to destabilise him, said the president’s chief communication adviser.

According to Pieree Charon, Sarkozy may have fallen foul of a scheme with “financial movements” after some reports surfaced on the internet saying that he and his wife, former model Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, were both having affairs. He said that this would be among the several lines that authorities would be following during the first round of criminal investigation into the origin of the gossips.

Allegations that the president was having an affair with Ecology Minister Chantal Jouanno, and his wife with singer Benjamin Biolay, first appeared in February on the social networking site Twitter. The couple denied the claims, which Sarkozy brushed off as idiotic “ratings”.

The rumours were spread by at least two French reporters – without confirmation – on Twitter and in a blog of the respected newspaper Journal du Dimanche’s website.

When the president complained, the site’s director was forced to resign and the blogger was laid off.

As said on a report, Sarkozy has “pressured” Hachette Filipacchi Associes – owner of the newspaper – to file a legal complaint for “fraudulent introduction of data into a computer system”.

Charon said: “There had to be a judicial procedure, so that fear would switch to the other side,” adding that, “We will go all the way so that ’such a rumour’ doesn’t happen ever again”.

Former Justice Minister Rachida Dati was compelled to deny allegations that she had been involved and warned to sue anyone who repeats them.
